And with Offshoots, it does.

How Offshoots Supports Families

Offshoots is a fully planned unit study program created to support and simplify learning at home.

  • Immersive family learning with ready-to-go lessons |
No more guesswork or last-minute prep.
  • A program that’s as easy to follow as it is to teach |
No more wondering if you’re doing enough each day.
  • Units that are clear, cohesive, and rooted in connection | No more hopping between disjointed resources.

It’s a roadmap for your days and a rhythm that flows with your family. Offshoots takes the overwhelm out of teaching your children so you can focus on what matters: the memories you make while learning together.

An Overview of Offshoots

Offshoots is a family unit study program built around the discovery subjects: social studies, science, language arts, fine arts, and more.

Each unit is built on a knowledge-rich theme that’s brought to life with hands-on activities, intentional book pairings, rich conversations, and connected lessons.

The units are designed to be done individually or combined for deeper learning. We recommend 6-8 units per year to help round out a full elementary homeschool program.

Offshoots is designed to build lasting knowledge, deepen critical thinking, and support families learning together.

How It’s Different

Offshoots takes a magical, joyful, and wider approach to learning. Instead of teaching subjects in isolation, each unit weaves them together under one meaningful theme.

When subjects are taught together, children learn more – and remember more. Learning in isolation is easy to forget, but when topics cross science, language arts, social studies, and fine arts, children start to see how the world fits together.

Each unit is a one-month deep dive, carefully chosen for rich vocabulary, strong connections, and lasting learning. Everything is planned for you, with lessons that span subjects and grow understanding in a way that feels natural and engaging.

An Immersive Learning Experience

Each unit connects poetry, fine arts, language arts, sensory exploration, dramatic play, and STEM. Subjects are explored from all angles, with every elementary age and ability level in mind. Learning is meant to be interesting – and Offshoots units achieve that through hands-on experiments, interconnected content, and engaging supplemental materials.

When learning is connected, it’s more fun.

Offshoots is a special kind of learning families enjoy together. When knowledge is built and shared in meaningful ways, it becomes more than “an education” – it becomes memories.

The experiments. The activities. The way it anchors your day.

Offshoots brings families together – and that’s the magic.

Fully Planned, Ready to Go

All of the prep, planning, research, and brainstorming for knowledge-rich, interactive family unit studies has been taken care of. No more trying to lay out a schedule. No more struggling to map out lessons. No more piecing things together.

It’s all been done for you.

Every unit is clearly laid out.
Every week is thoughtfully curated.
Every lesson is open-and-go.

Step-by-step instructions are included for all activities, and lightly scripted prompts help you to teach with confidence and ease. You’ll also find helpful background knowledge woven into each unit, so you don’t have to spend time researching a topic before each lesson.

The lessons are ready. Open, teach, and learn as a family.

Exploring the Discovery Subjects

The Offshoots program focuses on discovery subjects – science, social studies, the arts, and more – to spark curiosity, cultivate wonder, and help children connect with the world.

Science

Explore physical, Earth, and life sciences through hands-on experiments, discussions, and demonstrations.

Language Arts

Connect real life learning to language arts skills, like journal prompts, grammar, and copywork.

Social Studies

Create a broader sense of self and a connection to Earth through rich topics and conversations.

Fine Arts

Discover meaningful works of art and music thoughtfully connected to each unit’s theme.

STEM

Build engineering, applied math, and technology skills through interactive activities.

Literature

Develop a deeper appreciation of literature with curated book lists, diverse genres, and poetry studies.

Family Unit Studies

Each unit is built on a compelling, high-interest theme divided into four subtopics. This month-long learning builds foundational knowledge through interconnected subject areas and hands-on learning.

The program is not leveled and is designed to work beautifully for K-5 learners.

Units were specifically chosen for their rich vocabulary, ability to translate across domains, and depth of topic.

Don’t judge a unit by its name

A unit may appear tilted to one subject area, but each is masterfully designed to cross domains within the topic. Every unit, whether rooted in science, social studies, or literature, bridges into poetry, fine arts, language arts, sensory exploration, gross motor play, dramatic play, and STEM.

How Offshoots Works

Offshoots is a unit study program, designed to help your family experience knowledge-building in context.

Each unit in Offshoots spans for 4 weeks. A typical day with Offshoots includes a learning conversation, a suggested read aloud, a language arts activity aligned to the theme, and a hands-on activity to explore, experiment, and connect learning to real life.

These are not traditional lessons, complicated activities, or busy work.

You’ll also find weekly overviews and daily lesson plans in this unique program. The lessons are lightly scripted to help you find confidence and success at teaching.

There’s structure: Each day follows a predictable pattern.
There’s pre-planning: Every day is mapped out for you.
There’s guidance: Teaching notes throughout the program help build your knowledge alongside your child(ren).

In addition to the actual curriculum, each unit includes the 20+ page“Start-Up Guide where you’ll receive support and guidance on how the program works—no need to wonder where to begin, how to teach, or why certain choices were made. Everything is explained in detail in the Start-Up Guide so you can hit the ground running.

Flexible. Affordable. Achievable.

A Look Inside Offshoots

Each daily lesson follows a predictable, supportive structure to set you and your child(ren) up for success. There’s no second-guessing what to do each day or why.

  1. Start with a review to get everyone thinking and talking.
  2. Read a book tied to the unit theme.
  3. Have a family learning conversation related to discovering new knowledge.
  4. Practice language arts skills such as copywork, poetry, or grammar.
  5. Complete a hands-on activity to deepen the understanding of the day’s topic.
  6. Close by returning to the guiding question and synthesizing the day’s learning.

A clear daily routine, detailed lessons, and step-by-step instructions take the guesswork out of learning at home, give you confidence as the teacher, and help your children feel secure and excited to learn.

How Multi-Age Learning Works

Offshoots doesn’t separate kids by grade level or rush through topics. It’s intentionally designed to work for families with one elementary learner or many, offering leveled options when needed and embracing open-ended questions that welcome multiple perspectives.

Ask a question like, “Why don’t ocean animals sink?” and a six-year-old and ten-year-old might give completely different answers, both of which are beautifully valid and rich with thought. That’s the magic of Offshoots. It leaves space for all.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

A day with Offshoots feels full but not overwhelming. In this electives-based program, you’ll talk, read, explore, and create. Most families spend 45-60 minutes a day on Offshoots lessons, not including any extra reading or offshoots your kids want to take.

The 4-day week leaves room for appointments, co-ops, field trips, or simply taking it slow. Offshoots is guided, pre-planned, and lightly scripted, but it’s flexible to meet and fit your family’s needs.

Offshoots is Evergreen and Secular

Offshoots isn’t tied to a calendar, religion, or hemisphere. It’s secular and designed to be used anytime of year – fall, winter, spring, or somewhere in between. You can start whenever you’re ready and go at your own pace.

If you take a break, the program will be waiting for you right where you left off.

Not Just for Homeschooling

You don’t have to be a homeschooling family to use Offshoots. This program is designed to reach all families – whether you homeschool or traditional school. Foundational knowledge, building memories with kids, and cultivating a lifelong love of learning is important – no matter how your family does “school.”

Offshoots is a homeschool curriculum, a summer break curriculum, an evenings together curriculum, and a because my kid is really into dinosaurs curriculum.

A Doable, Flexible Program

Offshoots was created by a former classroom teacher and a homeschooling parent who understand the balance families are trying to strike: real learning, real connection, and real life. You won’t need to prep for hours, scour the internet for ideas, or wonder if you’re “doing it right.”

All the planning is done for you. You just show up, ready to explore, and Offshoots will do the rest.

Offshoots gives you a clear path forward, without stress, pressure, or guesswork.
It’s everything you need to teach your whole family. No more piecing together scattered resources, second-guessing your plans, or wondering if you’re doing enough.

Offshoots offers structure without rigidity, flexibility without overwhelm, and guidance without pressure.

It’s made for real families, real days, and real growth. It’s full of joyful learning, memory making, and knowledge-building that your family will carry beyond the pages of this program.

Learning at home should feel good.
And with Offshoots, it can.
